Description

Fine handmade Persian Kurdish sofreh (bread cloth) kilim; woven by the nomadic village Kurds dwelling around the city of Āshkhāneh in North Khorasan province, adorned with very magnificent and authentic motifs that represent the cultural greatness, artistic achievements, beliefs, customs, and the ups and downs of ethnic history of the Kurds of this land. The motifs of this unique art, which was used as bread cloth to keep bread safe from humidity, are usually animals and humans, ancient symbols that all express ethnic dignity and respect for nature and are inspired spontaneously by weavers' thoughts and feelings at the moment of weaving. Due to the deep symbolic meanings of these motifs, the Kurdish breadcloth has long been considered sacred among the Kurdish peoples of this region. But now, due to the difficulties of everyday life, they use it as a rug.
