The second issue of Handwoven magazine was published with the topic A Narrative of the Functions of persian rug

The second issue of Handwoven magazine was published with the theme (A Narrative of the Functions of persian rug). This issue examines the functional, cultural, and semantic layers of the persian rug; from its primary function as a safe living surface, to its role as the space itself in gatherings, rituals, and daily life. Over time, the rug has transformed from a functional item into an artistic, social, and symbolic element that has been present in the sorrows and joys of persian people. This issue is an attempt to reinterpret the obvious and hidden functions of the rug— from wall decoration to companionship from the cradle to the grave — and is an invitation to see the handwoven rug from the perspective of meaning, not just beauty

The second issue of Handwoven magazine was published

Handwoven magazine, which is published at the end of each season, has published its second issue with a new theme. In this issue, the persian rug is considered not only as a floor covering, but also as a space for living, conversation, ritual, and memory-making; a space that has always been an inseparable part of persian life from the heart of history to the present day, whether in nomadic tents or in magnificent halls

This issue attempts to reinterpret the hidden and visible layers of the rug; from its main function as a companion in everyday life to its place in persian culture, art, and spirituality. In this narrative, the handwoven rug is not just a product for use, but is introduced as a social media, a carrier of ethnic and cultural symbols, and a testament to the connection between generations

In its second step, Handwoven like the first issue, tries to establish a bridge between tradition and modernity and remind the audience that the rug is spread over the earth, but woven into the soul and life of the persian person. This issue invites readers to reflect, asking them to look at rug not only through the lens of beauty, but also from the perspective of meaning and function

The beginning of the second issue of Handwoven magazine

Handwoven; A narrative of the functions of persian rug from ancient times to the present

A Persian rug, before being spectacular, is spread out; to cover the ground and to protect humans from the cold of the earth, the hardness of the rock, and the dispersion and disorder. Its primary function is the underlay that is spread out on the ground to be a practical product for a safe and comfortable life

But in persian culture, a rug is not just a underlay, but space itself. Where a handwoven rug is spread out, life begins, even if there is no roof. A space to create a life in the heart of a desert, or under a nomadic tent, in a simple room or a royal hall. A handwoven rug creates an area where people gather, sit for conversation, rest, perform rituals, and record memories. So far, nothing has been able to create such a space as much as a handwoven rug; A space in which persian people live, stay, and find meaning

Over the generations, in addition to being a practical product, the rug has become a cultural, artistic, social and symbolic element, a part of human life; in simple and magnificent moments, in sadness and joy, in birth and farewell, the rug has always been there; spread over the earth, but woven into human life. And this deep connection with life was what we addressed in the first issue of the magazine Handwoven, with a narrative of time, slowness and continuity

Now, in the second issue of Handwoven, we have tried to reinterpret the hidden and visible layers of the rug from the perspective of what an persian rug is and its various functions. From the main function of the rug as a floor covering to a decorative and aesthetic element on the walls. From the role of the rug as a constant companion of man from the cradle to the grave, to a social media that brings people together. From cultural and ethnic symbols hidden in design, pattern, and color, to a symbolic and spiritual object, carrying the ritual concepts, memories, and beliefs of a nation

Therefore, the second issue of Handwoven, with the theme of a narrative of the functions of persian rug from ancient times to the present, is an invitation to look at rug, not only from the perspective of beauty, but also from the perspective of meaning and function. Join us in this narrative
